REVIEWS AS PUBLISHED BY : • LONELY PLANET PANAMA, 3rd edition November 2004, page 219, www.lonelyplanet.com "on the road to Cerro Punta, the first settlement you will come to is Paso Ancho, where you will find a great house to rent. Las PLumas ..... It´s excellent value for money ...." • THE BRADT TRAVEL GUIDE PANAMA, 1st edition March 2005, page 219, www.bradtguides.com. " The Las Plumas Guesthouse...sits on the outskirts of Paso Ancho...The Guesthouse is actually a beautifully appointed single-story building in the expansive gardens of a private home.....Few hosts are more accommodating than Ann-Marie and Dirk de Veer, a super couple from Holland.....Las Plumas is a good self-catering base from which to explore the highlands...." • FROMMER´S PANAMA, 1st edition 2007, page 225, www.frommers.com. " The Dutch owners of Las Plumas offer three homes full kitchens and living rooms that are truly a bargain...." SOME TESTIMONIALS (note: sadly my wife Ann-Marie passed away on August 20, 2007 at an age of 52 years) "We saw the other popular tourist accommodations in the area, and they didn't hold a candle to Las Plumas. Our holiday home Motmot was quiet, private, spacious, beautiful, and had every amenity. We saw over 50 species of birds right on the property in just a few days. Our only hesitation in recommending Las Plumas is that it will be harder for us to get a reservation!" Darrin O'Brien and Julie Craves (USA) For Ann-Marie and Dirk, Have stayed at Las Plumas twice: for a month in the Tanager and a week in the Woodpecker. It is a very pleasant place, both indoors and out, and an excellent value, especially for extended stays. The cottages are immaculate and very nicely appointed, including comprehensive kitchen equipment. The recent addition of laundry facilities to the Tanager and Woodpecker leave nothing wanting. I was somewhat of a “high-maintenance” guest, jamming a lock and then locking myself out one night; also I have a friend that decided to call me via the De Veers’ home telephone on several occasions. Dirk and Ann-Marie handled these incidents with grace and good humor and have made me feel welcome as a future resident of the Volcan area. Treca Walker (USA) For Ann-marie and Dirk, It was with the greatest of pleasure that we stayed in the Woodpecker House. The house was more akin to a home than a vacation rental. The services that were offered us were fantastic and not expected. The closeness to Volcan was extremely helpful. The fully equipped kitchen was wonderful. The recent, solid construction displayed no problems at all. Even more impressive than the home and close-by amenities of Volcan was the friendliness and helpfulness of Dirk, himself. I will most heartily recommend Las Plumas to anyone needing a vacation rental or a base of operations in the Volcan area. The weekly rates are on par with even the cheap motels and the monthly rates are impressively inexpensive. Las Plumas is indeed a beautiful place to stay and enjoy the Volcan area. Even more, Dirk is a very good friend to have helped us the way he did.Thank you, Dirk, from the bottoms of our heart, Marty and Jane Martin ( USA) Hello Dirk and Ann-Marie, We want to thank both of you for making our visit to the Volcan area so memorable. Your kindness and helpfulness were expecially appreciated. I really enjoyed the exploratory trips and hikes with you Dirk - it was great fun. We both enjoyed the social activities you included us in - the monthly lunch, the Christmas dinner and the New Years Eve party. We had a lot of fun and met a lot of very nice people. Your guest house was certainly very comfortable and well equipped. Larry and Sylvia Adamache (Vernon, British Columbia, Canada) Dear Dirk and Ann-Marie, MaryGrace and I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay in your guest home. Our two weeks were wonderful and much too short. You will notice that we referred to our accommodations as a Guest Home as opposed to your reference in the listing as a Guest House. Your place felt like home our entire stay. We fell asleep every night listing to the rushing waters of El Rio Chiriqui Viejo and awaken the next morning to the same along with some chirping birds. As we described to you, we wanted to "live" in Chiriqui for our two-week stay. We had considered staying at a Bed and Breakfast but in order to get a more realistic experience, we wanted to cook and live as we envisioned retirement living. Your guest home gave us that experience. It was equipped with everything needed to setup house keeping. The beds and furnishings were very comfortable. We also would like to thank you for inviting us over to your home for a most delicious Sunday afternoon dinner. We enjoyed our conversation with you and your other dinner guest. We hope to see all of you on our next trip to Panama. We will certainly consider staying with you again. Sincerely, Chester and MaryGrace Oakes (Phoenix, Arizona, USA) Dirk and Ann-Marie, Thanks for be a good landlord, host, and friend while we were in Chiriqui. We hope to get back next summer and may be contacting you about the guest house. The Las Plumas guest house was a nice spot for my wife and I while we were in Chiriqui. The de Veer's have found their little piece of paradise in the shadow of Volcan Baru and are willing to share it by renting their guest house to those luckly enough to visit Western Panama. It's location in the quient village of Paso Ancho is convenient to public transportation and the town of Volcan. We stayed a month and never felt the need to rent a car. The daily temperature at this altitude was between 65-75 degrees F- PERFRECTION! I recommend Las Plumas to anyone that has enough time to really explore and discover Panama's Chiriqui province. Patrick Wade (Harlingen, Texas, USA) Dear Ann-Marie and Dirk, I want to thank you for your hospitality during my stay at your guest house. It was so comfortable I felt I was home in my own house. Comfortable beds, cable television and enough hot water for all. It sure is a lot better than staying in a hotel. Again, thanks for everything, Richard Mower (USA) We are Larry Massing and Carolyn Mele. We had the pleasure of enjoying a 2 month stay at Dirk and Ann-Marie's Las-Plumas guest house in Volcan, Chiriqui. We enjoyed the quiet and very secure atmosphere here. Las-Plumas guest house is very clean and comfortable and we could not find more enjoyable and friendly "dueños" as Dirk and Ann-Marie. They are very helpful and extend a very warm welcome. We appreciate their wonderful hospitality, this made our stay quite pleasurable. We highly recommend their Las-Plumas guest house. Thank you and very sincerely, Carolyn and Larry (Nevada, Texas, USA) My husband & I rented one of two lovely guest homes on the grounds of Dirk and Ann-Maries own property in Paso Ancho for a month. It has been a true "home away from home" for us. The location is just far enough out of town to be completely quiet and peaceful yet still close enough to be able to visit all of the local attractions with ease (even for folks like us who choose to use the excellent public transportation system instead of renting a car). The cottage itself is clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, well supplied with pretty much everything needed to set up housekeeping, including a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, all bedding, towels and basic supplies, plus satelite T.V. (just in case you ever want to sit inside and watch T.V.) as well as high speed internet available for a modest charge. We did not have the opportunity to get to know Dirk and Ann-Marie well as they left for Holland shortly after we arrived but the man and woman working for them were friendly and helpful whenever we needed information, direction or assistance. If you are wanting all the comforts of home for an overnight or a long stay, you will not find a better place than one of the de Veer´s guest houses Linda J. Draxlir (Moyie Springs,ID, USA) Dear Ann-Marie and Dirk, We wish to thank you for your hospitality. Normaly, we don´t write letters like this, but the exceptional time we had staying with you at your guest house was so enjoyable we felt we had to say something. Beautifull views, comfortable living, fantastic times, what more can we say, except if you ever need a reference on your little spot of heaven please feel free to use our name or give our e-mail address. We will certainly be more then happy to tell anyone of our experience at Las Plumas Rentals and with the de Veer´s. John and June Bennett (USA) |
